Seeking to create a warm and inviting working environment for property company Stride’s head office in Auckland, designers 4WoRK looked to timber-effect finishes from Laminex.

‘Melteca is a product I use a lot,’ says Charmaine Stapelberg, design manager at 4WoRK. ‘It’s a real go-to design panel, and the Melteca range had the timber tone we were looking for in this project.’

For the 720 sqm refurbishment, 4WoRK developed a colour palette based on Melteca Aged Walnut. ‘Stride wanted that warm walnut colour brought into the space,’ says Charmaine. ‘We complemented that with a beige carpet, blonde timber flooring, and furniture with pops of autumn colours – deep rich oranges, yellows, and greens.’

A feature wall for a dramatic entry - Melteca Aged Walnut battens with black edge tape

Using Melteca Aged Walnut throughout the interior allowed the designers to unify distinct spaces, from the reception to meeting rooms and team areas, applying it for both practical and decorative effects.

The Stride logo is backlit on a fabric panel that floats above an Aged Walnut feature wall in the reception. ‘The Melteca is cut into battens and installed with a 10mm wide negative detail and edged with black edge tape to reinforce shadow lines and depth,’ says Charmaine. ‘It adds a touch of drama to the space and the fabric subtly references the brand colour.’

Subdued, subtle tones for the staff rooms

For the enlarged staff hub, black ceiling tiles and subdued lighting evoke a relaxed and restful atmosphere in comparison to the general work areas. Here, the Aged Walnut cabinetry is paired with Laminex Formica in Storm, for overhead cupboards.

‘The mid-grey of Storm has a subtle blue hue that picks up on the tones in the walnut,’ says Charmaine, ‘and we completed the look with a Melteca Black toe kick and Caesarstone benchtops in Cloudburst Concrete.

‘The space used to be very brightly lit, but now it has a softer more sophisticated atmosphere that allows people to relax. The Stride team wanted to ensure that the design had a human connection and resonance in materials, and with the timber look of Melteca and deep colours in the range, we’ve been able to achieve just that.’
